Lamborn - Vintage XVI - Cabernet Sauvignon - 2018
$154.00
Four generations of Lamborns have farmed the top of Howell Mountain since 1969, and Heidi Barrett of Screaming Eagle fame has made their wine since 1997. Vintage XVI is Cabernet from the family's eight-acre organic estate vineyard at 2,200 feet, grown in volcanic Aiken loam above the fog line. It is dense, structured mountain wine with a stated runway of 25 years or more. Cult-adjacent Napa Cab that still tastes like a family farm, because it is one.
Blueberry, blackberry and black currant with caramel, lavender and dark chocolate. Thick, layered palate of dark fruit, coffee bean, mocha and toasted oak. Prominent fine tannins and a long, rewarding finish.
Classic matches for Cabernet Sauvignon: Ribeye off the grill, lamb chops, aged cheddar, a rainy night and a good movie.
The estate vineyard sits atop Howell Mountain at 2,200 feet in volcanic Aiken loam, farmed organically by the family themselves. Lamborn claims the first 'Family Vineyards' label in the United States, with Cabernet in production here since 2003.
