Le Tazonner is a Sancerre bottling from Nicolas Idiart, a young Loire negociant-winemaker who works hand in hand with growers across the region. The 2023 is Sauvignon Blanc from 30-year-old vines on Sancerre's chalky soils, raised in tank, never oak, to keep the aromatics loud and the palate taut. Citrus and grapefruit with a cool streak of mint and peach. Real Sancerre character at a price the famous names stopped offering years ago.
Citrus and grapefruit lead, with mint, white peach, and gooseberry behind. Crisp and taut, green apple and lemon zest, chalky minerality, clean stony finish.
Warm goat cheese salad, raw oysters, trout with herbs and lemon.
Idiart sources Sancerre from vines around the village of Vinon, planted on the dry chalk locals call caillotte, and ferments in concrete and tank to preserve aromatic complexity.
