António and Joana Maçanita are sibling winemakers with one of the sharpest track records in modern Portugal, and this is their Douro red, the label everyone calls MAC Tinto. The blend runs 55% Touriga Nacional with 20% Sousão and 25% old-vine field blend from vines up to 80-plus years, grown on schist and granite between 200 and 600 meters in the Cima Corgo. Twelve months in stainless steel, zero oak. Wine Advocate gave the 2023 91 points. Freshness first, Douro power second.

Deep violet. Black and blue fruit with violets and wet stone on the nose. Rich but balanced, blueberry and plum carried by fresh acidity. Finishes long and spicy with flowers and minerals.

Grilled steak, roasted pork shoulder, richer game dishes, a mushroom pizza on the couch.

Hand harvested from old high-altitude plots in the Cima Corgo, cold soaked and fermented on wild yeasts with 20 days of maceration, then aged twelve months entirely in stainless steel. The Maçanitas chase freshness and minerality over Douro heaviness. Imported by Olé & Obrigado.
