MacRostie - Sonoma Coast - Chardonnay - 2021

Steve MacRostie made his first Sonoma Coast Chardonnay and Pinot Noir back in 1974, years before most people used that AVA name, and founded his own winery in 1987. This bottling comes from the cool, fog-swept sites that built his reputation: bright, textural Chardonnay made for age-worthiness rather than butter and oak. Winemaker Heidi Bridenhagen now carries the style forward from the Estate House on Westside Road. Open it with roast chicken, or just by itself on the porch.

Persimmon, ripe Meyer lemon and brioche on the nose, layered with pear, pineapple and tangerine. Mouthwatering acidity, a touch of honey and spice, and a long, mineral-tinged finish.

Classic matches for Chardonnay: Roast chicken, lobster or crab with butter, corn dishes, soft creamy cheeses.

Steve MacRostie made his first Sonoma Coast wines in 1974 and founded the winery in 1987, well before the AVA had its current name or reputation. The estate is now centered on Thale's Vineyard, named for his wife, at the MacRostie Estate House on Westside Road in the Russian River Valley.
