Mary Taylor - Anjou Blanc - 2021
$22.99
Mary Taylor is a New York-based negociant who works directly with small European growers, bottling their wine under her own label at fair prices with the producer's name on the back. This Anjou Blanc comes from fourth-generation winemaker Pascal Biotteau, farming in Saint-Jean-de-Mauvrets in the Coteaux de l'Aubance, on the old Roman road between Angers and Poitiers. It's 100% Chenin Blanc, dry despite the variety's honeyed reputation, and a real find for Loire fans who want the genuine small-grower version instead of a supermarket bottle.
Apple, quince and chalky soil tones with a touch of bee pollen and white lily. Bright, full-bodied and focused on the palate, with zesty acidity and honeyed apple and stone-fruit flavors leading to a long, balanced finish.
Classic matches for Chenin Blanc: Pork, poultry, soft cheeses, dishes with a little sweetness or spice.
The wine comes from Pascal Biotteau, a fourth-generation grower based in Saint-Jean-de-Mauvrets, farming within Anjou-Villages in the Coteaux de l'Aubance sub-region. Mary Taylor imports and bottles his wine as part of her small-producer negociant portfolio rather than blending it into a house style.
