Mas Amiel is the great estate of Maury in French Catalonia, farmed organically and biodynamically, historically famous for fortified Grenache. Natural Syrah is the other side of the house: 100% Syrah from the La Deveze parcel on calc-schist soils, vinified with no sulfites and no oenological inputs of any kind. IGP Cotes Catalanes. The 2022 is smoky, glossy, and alive. Natural wine without the funk tax. Chill it fifteen minutes and watch it disappear.
Dark red with violet hints. Smoke first, then peony, blackberry, and black cherry. Aromatic, supple palate with depth and freshness, finishing long, smooth, and faintly salty.
Classic matches for Syrah: Barbecue, sausages, braised short ribs, anything with black pepper.
Mas Amiel spreads across schist hills in Maury, Roussillon, with two centuries of history built on Vin Doux Naturel. The dry Natural range is parcel-driven; this Syrah comes off calc-schist at La Deveze and never touches sulfur in the cellar.
