Matchbook - The Arsonist - Chardonnay - 2020
$30.99
The Arsonist is Matchbook Wine Company's richer, oak-driven Chardonnay, made at their certified-sustainable estate in the Dunnigan Hills of Yolo County, north of Napa. The 2020 is barrel fermented and put through full malolactic conversion in French oak, the classic recipe for a big, creamy style. It picked up a silver medal at the Sommeliers Choice Awards. This is old-school California Chardonnay: butter, vanilla, and tropical fruit, built for people who miss that style and don't apologize for it.
Butterscotch, crème brûlée, honeysuckle and baking spice up front, with pear, pineapple and stone fruit underneath. Rich, creamy texture from full malolactic, toasty oak and vanilla lingering on the finish.
Roast chicken with cream sauce, lobster with drawn butter, or a soft triple-cream cheese.
Matchbook farms its own certified-sustainable estate in the Dunnigan Hills AVA of Yolo County, a warm, quiet appellation between Napa and Sacramento better known for value than flash. The Arsonist is their bigger, French-oaked Chardonnay bottling.
