Stags Leap District Cabernet from serious dirt. Matthew Wallace pulls this 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from Block 1 of Regusci Ranch and made just 221 cases of the 2018. It shows the darker side of the district: opaque purple-black in the glass, broad shouldered and tightly structured, 14.2% alcohol. Decant it hard tonight or bury it a few years. Single-vineyard Stags Leap Cab routinely costs more than this, which is exactly why we bought it.

Worn leather, cigar box, smoked meat and blackberry paste on the nose. The palate layers cassis reduction, river rock, dark chocolate shavings, blueberry compote, baking spice and purple lilac over firm structure.

Classic matches for Cabernet Sauvignon: Ribeye off the grill, lamb chops, aged cheddar, a rainy night and a good movie.
