Milenrama Tempranillo Rioja
$16.00
Milenrama is yarrow, the wildflower that grows along the vineyard paths in Rioja and sits on the label. Sisters Ruth and Ana de Andres make the wines with a stated goal: vinos buenos, bonitos y baratos. Good, pretty, cheap. This is the unoaked joven, 100 percent Tempranillo from old bush vines, fermented in concrete and steel with no barrel anywhere near it. Pure fruit. Chill it fifteen minutes.
Deep shimmering red. Cherry and spicecake on the nose with peppery lift. Juicy and energetic on the palate, good depth, discreet tannins, spice repeating on a nicely persistent finish.
Classic matches for a red like this: Grilled and roasted meats, hearty pastas, aged cheeses.
Fruit comes from gobelet-pruned vines averaging forty years old, planted on gravel over clay-limestone between 300 and 500 meters. Hand-harvested, then fifteen days of alcoholic fermentation split between concrete and temperature-controlled tanks.
