Chris Carpenter is Napa's mountain Cabernet specialist, the winemaker behind Lokoya and Cardinale, and Mt. Brave is his Mt. Veeder project. The 2019 runs 90 percent Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot, Cab Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec, raised in 81 percent new French oak. High-elevation Mayacamas fruit delivers serious density wrapped in genuine mountain tannin. Critics landed between 94 and 96 points. A brooding, structured Cab for the collector shelf or a very good steak.
Black cherry, blueberry and Asian spice with cassis, tobacco and lead pencil. Profound fruit density, fine structured tannins, balanced acidity, long savory finish.
