Mulderbosch - Chenin Blanc - 2022

Stellenbosch, South Africa. Mulderbosch built its reputation on Chenin Blanc back when barrel-fermented Chenin was practically unheard of in the Cape, and this bottling still shows why. Founders Larry Jacobs and Mike Dobrovic turned a derelict old fruit farm into one of South Africa's most respected white wine producers starting in 1989. The 2022 splits fermentation between stainless steel and neutral wood, keeping the fruit bright while adding a little textural weight. An everyday white with real pedigree behind it.

Green fig, ripe peach, apricot and pear with a flinty, spiced-earth undertone. Balanced, finely tuned acidity carries the fruit through a clean, dry finish. Drinking well now.

Founded in 1989 by Larry Jacobs and Mike Dobrovic on a derelict fruit farm in Stellenbosch with no history of viticulture. Mulderbosch fermented Chenin Blanc in barrique as early as 1996, one of the first Cape producers to do so, and Chenin remains the estate's flagship under winemaker Adam Mason.
