Mural is the everyday red from Quinta do Portal, a family estate in Portugal's Douro Valley that focuses on DOC Douro table wines rather than Port alone. The blend is classic Douro: 40% Tinta Roriz, 40% Touriga Franca and 20% Touriga Nacional. Ripe black fruit, spice, real minerality, tannin that means business without being a chore. The Douro still hides some of Europe's best red wine value, and this is Exhibit A. Drink it with anything roasted.
Dense and dark. Spice and red-to-black fruits on the nose, a balanced palate with firm tannins, bright acidity, an edge of minerality and a long finish that is still young and will settle with a year in bottle.
Roast pork, oxtail stew, hard sheep's cheese, or a weeknight plate of grilled linguica.
Quinta do Portal is a family winemaking house in the Douro. Per the producer's retail listings, Mural rests about nine months in oak casks in their cellars, with gentle gravity-led handling through fermentation.
