The joke writes itself. Neyers calls it Left Bank, and the 2020 is 90 percent Merlot with 10 percent Cabernet Sauvignon. Never mind the geography. Bruce and Barbara Neyers founded this St. Helena house in 1992, and winemaker Tadeo Borchardt has run the cellar since 2004. Full bodied, savory Napa claret with black olive, currant and tobacco, and grippy tannin that wants a ribeye. Drinks well now and holds to 2032.
Black currant, black olive, graphite and tobacco. Full bodied and concentrated, dark fruit layered with cocoa and cedar. Hearty, grippy tannins and a savory, tightly wound finish.

The Neyers home ranch is 47 hillside acres in Conn Valley, east of St. Helena, bought in 1984 and planted to Merlot and Cabernet on gravel, basalt and sandy loam rising from 400 to nearly 1,000 feet.
