Nucerro Gran Reserva comes from Bodegas Olarra in Logroño, blending Tempranillo with Garnacha, Graciano and Mazuelo from gobelet-trained vines averaging over 30 years across Rioja Alta, Alavesa and Oriental. The cellar work is the old-school kind: malolactic in new Allier barrels, 27 months total in Allier and Missouri oak, then 40 months resting in bottle before release. All the patience has been done for you. Classic leather-and-coffee Gran Reserva, ready the night you carry it home.
Raisin and mature red fruit balanced with spice and toast, developing leather, coffee bean and dried plum. Deep ruby-rimmed color, velvety smooth palate, pleasantly long and fresh finish.
Grilled ribeye, braised game, aged Manchego. The producer even suggests spicy marinated fish, and they are right.
Bodegas Olarra farms vineyards around Logroño touching all three Rioja zones, on alluvial soils rich in clay and limestone. Fermentation runs 18 days in temperature-controlled stainless steel; malolactic happens in new 225-liter Allier casks with three months of lees stirring before the long oak program.
