Oak Farm Vineyards farms a 70-acre family estate in Lodi on land first settled in 1860. Vapor Trail is their unapologetic big Zinfandel, named for the towering wake a race boat leaves behind. The 2022 actually comes from Amador County: head-trained vines at the Vista Cecilia vineyard, 1,430 feet up on red Sierra loam. It clocks 16.5% alcohol, ages in 34% new French and American oak, and only 1,485 cases exist. Cold nights, big plates, this bottle.

Jammy berry preserves, raisin, cocoa and a curl of smoke. Full-bodied and structured, balanced for its size, with a persistent finish.

Vista Cecilia vineyard, Amador County: head-trained vines on red, rocky Sierra loam at about 1,430 feet, farmed by Josh Lyman. Hand-picked, cold-soaked, fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel.
