Opus One Cabernet Sauvignon - 2017
$456.00
The Oakville landmark. Robert Mondavi and Baron Philippe de Rothschild dreamed up a Napa first-growth together, and this is it: the 2017 blends 81% Cabernet Sauvignon with Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and a touch of Malbec, aged close to 20 months in new French oak, from the neighborhood that gave the world To Kalon. It's the bottle that gets opened when the news is big. Collectors cellar it for decades; the rest of us just need one very good excuse.
Black cassis, black cherry and a dusting of cocoa over rose-stem and forest-floor aromatics, with fine-grained, plush tannins and a long, supple finish. Drinks beautifully now; built to age for many years.
Classic matches for Cabernet Sauvignon: Ribeye off the grill, lamb chops, aged cheddar, a rainy night and a good movie.
Opus One was founded as a joint venture between Robert Mondavi and Baron Philippe de Rothschild, a first-growth ambition planted in the heart of Oakville. The blend changes with the vintage; the address does not.
