Oregon Territory - Pinot Noir - 2021
$25.99
Oregon Territory is made by Paul O'Brien Winery, the crew that turned an old Hansen Chevrolet dealership in downtown Roseburg into Umpqua Valley's first urban winery. The 2021 leans on dry-farmed fruit from both the Umpqua and Willamette Valleys, fermented 100% open-top with 25% whole cluster. Old-world habits applied to new-world sourcing. It's a tribute wine, named for the pioneering spirit that brought Pinot Noir to Oregon in the 1960s. Wine Enthusiast gave it 93 points and called it a Best Buy, deservedly so.
Raspberry, cherry and dark plum with rose petal and jasmine perfume, a touch of toast and black cherry underneath. Silky, fine-tannined and mouthwatering, with real balance for the price.
Classic matches for Pinot Noir: Salmon, roast duck, mushroom risotto, a charcuterie board that means business.
Fruit comes from dry-farmed vineyards spread across the Umpqua and Willamette Valleys, fermented in concrete open-tops, wood tanks and large oak casks. Paul O'Brien Winery built its name on exactly this kind of small-lot, whole-cluster Oregon Pinot.
