Amalia Palmaz talked her husband Julio into dedicating one tunnel of the family's Napa cave system to Chardonnay, and this wine carries her name. The 2019 is 100% barrel fermented, aged on the lees for seven months in 70% new French oak, bottled at 14.5% alcohol with only 1,892 cases made. It is a rich, full-bodied Chardonnay for someone who wants Napa oak and texture without buying into the Cabernet-only conversation. Good for a special dinner or a gift that says you paid attention.

Deep gold color. Honeysuckle and kiwi lift from the glass, joined by Meyer lemon rind and tropical banana. Full-bodied with well-integrated oak and a rounded, balanced finish of apricot and caramel.

Pair with roast chicken finished in brown butter, seared scallops, or a wedge of triple-cream brie.

Palmaz Vineyards ferments Amalia entirely inside its gravity-flow cave system north of the city of Napa, a single tunnel set aside just for Chardonnay at the request of family matriarch Amalia Palmaz.
