Pomar Junction is the Merrill family's winery in the El Pomar District of Paso Robles, with Cal Poly enology professor Jim Shumate making the wines. The Reserve Cabernet is a hand selection of the best barrels from the estate vineyard: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon off limestone Linne Calodo hillsides cooled by Templeton Gap breezes. The house recipe runs 21 months in French oak, about a third new. The 2016 carries nearly a decade of bottle age now. Drink-ready reserve Cab for thirty-eight dollars.
