A Tuscan Merlot with a bibliography. Castello di Poppiano is the Guicciardini family's estate in the Colli Fiorentini, and this wine honors Francesco Guicciardini, who retired to Poppiano in 1537 and wrote much of his Historia d'Italia there. The book's frontispiece sits right on the label. All Merlot, fermented in steel and aged in barriques and large oak casks. Velvety, plummy and balanced, a Super Tuscan story at Chianti money.

Structured yet elegant, with a pleasant fruity sweetness. Plum fruit and balsamic accents, fresh acidity, mature velvet tannins, and a long, intensely aromatic finish.

Truffle tagliatelle, porcini risotto, a bistecca off the coals, aged pecorino.

The Guicciardini family dates its Poppiano history to 1199. Castello di Poppiano farms 125 hectares of vines and 50 of olives southwest of Florence, anchored by Chianti Colli Fiorentini DOCG production under Conte Ferdinando Guicciardini.
