Potrero Malbec 2023 750ml
$22.00
Vinos de Potrero is the project of Nicolás Burdisso, the former Boca Juniors defender and club manager, and his wife Belén Soler Valle, a journalist and sommelier. They bought their first Gualtallary vineyard in 2008, high in the Uco Valley, and now farm four small neighboring parcels there. A potrero is a makeshift neighborhood soccer field; the idea is that hard ground breeds greatness. This 2023 is high-altitude Malbec with real freshness, not the jammy supermarket stuff.
Vivid and fresh. Blackberry and blueberry lead, with spicy and floral touches over a ripe, plush middle. Medium body, round juicy tannins, a clean mineral-edged finish.
Skirt steak with chimichurri, obviously. Also burgers, beef empanadas, and anything that has spent time over charcoal.
All fruit comes from Gualtallary in Tupungato, one of the highest, stoniest corners of the Uco Valley. The estate farms four adjoining vineyards of 3.4 to 4.6 hectares; first harvest 2011, with Malbec and Cabernet supplying all the red wines.
