Punzi is the Chianti label of Casa Vinicola Fossi, a Tuscan family in the wine trade since 1917 and shipping Chianti to the States since 1940. Andrea Fossi, the third generation, makes it. Sangiovese from nine hectares of clay and limestone at 150 meters, vines averaging a bit over twenty years. Soft, fruity, dry, meant to be drunk young. This is the pizza-night Chianti, and there is no shame in that.
Cherry and strawberry on the nose with red berry and violet. Dry and harmonic on the palate, very soft tannins, fresh and easy. Made to drink young.
Spaghetti and meatballs, red sauce anything, carbonara, pizza. Also good with roast chicken or a pork chop.
Nine hectares at 150 meters on clay and limestone, farmed conventionally, vines around twenty-three years old. Fossi has spent a century selecting wine from growers across Italy and putting it in bottle for export.
