Lutra is the scientific name for the European otter, a globally threatened species that still thrives on the Tejo, and Quinta da Alorna named this wine after it as a nod to protecting that river. The red is Trincadeira, Castelão and Touriga Nacional from the region's two terroirs, Lezíria and Charneca. Fermented in stainless steel, filtered, bottled. Thirteen percent. Ninety-two points and a gold medal at the 2025 Sommeliers Choice Awards. A weeknight red with real character.

Ruby. Blackberry and black plum jam on the nose, with brambly dark fruit, spice and a touch of licorice. Round and persistent on the palate, fresh and balanced, an austere finish.

Quinta da Alorna dates to 1723, founded by the first Marquis of Alorna, who named it after a fort he took in Goa. The Lopo de Carvalho family has run it for more than five generations. Two hundred and twenty hectares of vines sit inside an estate of over 2,800. Martta Reis Simões makes the wines.
