Small-lot Napa Cabernet from a family estate on the Silverado Trail. Winemaker Jeff Ames blends 98% Cabernet Sauvignon with 2% estate Cabernet Franc, then gives it 22 months in 85% new French oak from Taransaud and Darnajou. Only 320 cases made. The 2021 is the first vintage to include Clone 30 vines replanted after the 2017 fire, and the Wine Advocate scored it 93. Structured for 15 to 20 years in the cellar. Ready now with a few hours in a decanter.
Black currant, blackberry and plum aromas with hints of lavender. Dark plum layered with dark chocolate and dark spice on the palate. Long, silky finish, built to cellar 15 to 20 years.
Ribeye or New York strip is the move here. Lamb and duck work just as well.
The estate sits at 4130 Silverado Trail in Napa. Its north block, Clone 30 Cabernet replanted after the 2017 fire, joins the blend for the first time in 2021 alongside estate-grown Cabernet Franc.
