Ronco dei Pini - Pinot Grigio - 2022

Ronco dei Pini is a small family estate in Prepotto, in the Colli Orientali del Friuli, run by brothers Giuseppe and Claudio Novello on land their father Vito bought decades ago. The 2022 Pinot Grigio comes off a single south-facing hillside, about seventeen acres and 24,000 vines. Grapes are hand-picked, given a short cold maceration, then pressed and fermented in stainless steel before resting on the lees for nearly six months with regular battonage. That lees contact shows. This isn't watery Pinot Grigio, it has weight and a faint salinity that make it worth the extra few dollars.

White melon, rosemary and jasmine with a whisper of almond. Palate is savory and iodine-salty, herbal through the middle, closing on white fruit and toasted dried fruit. Medium body, clean finish.

Estate vineyard on a single south-facing hill in Prepotto, Colli Orientali del Friuli DOC, about 17 acres and 24,000 vines. Founded by Vito Novello; sons Giuseppe and Claudio now run the winery and farm the fruit themselves.
