Brunello from Castelnuovo dell'Abate, the southern corner of Montalcino that gives you power and perfume in the same glass. Ugolforte is Tenuta San Giorgio's flagship, 100% Sangiovese off slopes between 300 and 450 meters at the foot of Monte Amiata, and the name honors a medieval hero who fought for Siena's freedom. The 2018 is a structured, savory Brunello built for the table. Serious Montalcino at a fair price for the category.

Black cherry, blackberry, licorice, sweet cedar and scorched earth on the nose, with leather and dried herbs underneath. Full-bodied, firm tannin, fresh acidity and a long savory finish.

Classic matches for a red like this: Grilled and roasted meats, hearty pastas, aged cheeses.

The estate dates to 1982, carved from the historic Ciacci Piccolomini property, later developed by Guido Folonari and bought by the ColleMassari group of the Tipa-Bertarelli family in 2016. Vineyards overlook the Val d'Orcia south of Montalcino at 300 to 450 meters.
