Santa Julia is the Zuccardi family's organic label, named for Julia Zuccardi, and the family farms more organic vineyard than anyone else in Argentina, nearly 1,000 acres. El Burro is their natural Malbec from gravelly, sun-soaked Maipu just south of Mendoza city. No added sulfites, native yeast fermentation, bottled unfiltered. Plenty of natural wine at this price tastes like a science experiment. This one just tastes like good, slightly wilder Malbec. Chill it a touch.

Black cherry and plum with lilac, graphite, dark chocolate and licorice. Juicy and vivid on the palate, fine tannins, bright natural acidity, and a generous dark-berry finish.

Provoleta, mushroom tacos, a bacon cheeseburger, or choripan if you are feeling ambitious.

The Zuccardis planted their first vines in 1963 and have been a pillar of Mendoza winemaking ever since. Santa Julia was the first Mendoza winery certified Fair for Life, and El Burro comes from certified organic estate vineyards in Maipu's well-drained gravel soils.
