Napa fruit with a New Orleans soul. Chris Agan and Patrice 'TC' Whelan named their winery for the Crescent City's parade tradition, and Desire is the flagship: 90% Cabernet Sauvignon with 9% Merlot and 1% Petit Verdot from Calistoga and Spring Mountain fruit, hand harvested, aged 22 months in 80% new French oak, bottled unfined and unfiltered. Only 84 cases exist. A small-lot Napa Cabernet with a real story, for the collector who already owns the famous names.
Deep ruby. Black cherry, plum and cocoa up front, then black licorice, baking spice and vanilla. Rich, bold mouthfeel with smooth tannins that coat the palate into a long finish.
Classic matches for Cabernet Sauvignon: Ribeye off the grill, lamb chops, aged cheddar, a rainy night and a good movie.
Chris Agan earned a viticulture and enology certificate from UC Davis and interned at Joseph Phelps before launching Second Line in 2017 with a few barrels. Every label carries original French Quarter artwork by New Orleans painter Sarah Stiehl.
