Second Line Wines Celebration Cabernet Franc

Cabernet Franc from a south-facing knoll on Shifflett Ranch in Oak Knoll, one of the choicest corners of that property, softened with a shot of Merlot for flesh and balance. Second Line is Chris Agan's 800-case Napa label built on New Orleans spirit, and Celebration is both the name and the mission statement. Hand-harvested, hand-sorted, fermented in small batches. Spicy, savory Franc that stays ripe and never goes green. Bring it to the dinner where the food is good and the people are loud.

Plum skin, blackberry and boysenberry with pepper, chocolate and dried tobacco leaf. Herbal nuance without greenness. Bright acidity, grainy persistent tannins, a mouthwatering finish. Has the character to age a decade.

Winemaker Mike Hirby of Relic introduced Agan to the Shifflett family, whose Cabernet Franc grows on a small south-facing knoll in the northern Oak Knoll District. Agan has bought those grapes every year since.
