The Shifflett family has farmed this Oak Knoll District ranch since 1942, on land first planted to vines back in 1883. Fourth-generation Will Segui, who trained under Thomas Rivers Brown, now makes the estate wines. The 2018 Cabernet is deep ruby with chocolate, black currant and licorice on the nose, ripe fruit and baking spice on a velvety palate. Oak Knoll sits at the cooler foot of the Mayacamas, and it keeps the acidity honest. A true Napa family farm, not a trophy project.
