Domaine de Saint Siffrein is a Chateauneuf-du-Pape estate founded in 1880 by Abel Chastan and still run by his family, with Cyril Chastan at the helm since 2005. The farming is certified organic. This Cotes du Rhone Villages is the house's everyday red: 75 percent Grenache with Syrah and a splash of Mourvedre from 2021. You get Chateauneuf hands and Chateauneuf farming at a fraction of the tariff. Stew weather, grill weather, most weather wine.

Deep ruby. Sweet spice, stewed red fruit, Provencal herbs, cracked black pepper. Round and silky, fine tannins, ripe black cherry and currant, a chalky, earthy finish that hangs on.

Braised lamb shanks, herbed pork roast, ratatouille, sausages straight off the grill.

Founded 1880 by Abel Chastan and still family-owned; direct descendant Cyril Chastan has managed the estate since 2005. Certified organic. The 2021 blend is 75 percent Grenache, 20 percent Syrah, 5 percent Mourvedre.
