A wheat farm that turned into one of Walla Walla's best estates. The Corkrum family has worked Spring Valley since 1897; the fifth generation planted vines in the early 1990s and made the first wine in 1999. Frederick, named for the family muleskinner who drove the farm's mule teams before tractors arrived, is the estate's Cabernet-led Bordeaux blend, rested 19 months in French oak, 40% new. Dusty, savory, structured Washington Cabernet character with a decade ahead of it.

Dark red and black fruit with green herb, dusty leather and tobacco. Medium to full body, juicy mid-palate, firm gripping tannins, finish of dried herbs, coffee and blackberry skin.

Estate vines grow on a south-facing hillside above the family wheat fields in the Walla Walla Valley. The 2017 runs 93% Cabernet Sauvignon with other Bordeaux varieties. Today the property operates within the Ste. Michelle Wine Estates family.
