Tablas Creek - Patelin de Tablas - White - 2022
$39.99
Tablas Creek is the Paso Robles estate the Perrin family of Chateau de Beaucastel built with importer Robert Haas, and it's the reason Rhone whites work in California at all. The Patelin de Tablas Blanc blends seven varieties, mostly Grenache Blanc and Viognier, sourced from eight vineyards around Paso. Whole-cluster pressed, stainless steel fermentation, native yeast, no oak masking the fruit. Stone fruit and lemon custard over chalky minerality. Wine Enthusiast and Decanter both landed it at 93 points, and at this price that's a steal.
Mineral and citrus from the Grenache Blanc, stone fruit and white flowers from the Viognier, plus petrichor and peppery spice. Stone fruit and lemon custard on the palate, chalky minerality, vibrant acid, a long finish of white grapefruit, jasmine and sea spray.
Great with seafood cooked in garlic and white wine, scallops, lemon chicken, or a citrus-dressed salad.
The blend draws from eight Paso Robles vineyards: 49% Grenache Blanc, 22% Viognier, 10% Marsanne, 10% Vermentino, 4% Roussanne, 3% Picpoul Blanc and 2% Bourboulenc. Whole-cluster pressed and fermented in stainless steel with native yeasts to keep the fruit clean, bottled May 2023.
