Terra Gratia is the Napa Valley red from Marciano Estate, made by winemaker Andy Erickson. The 2013 blends 39% Cabernet Sauvignon and 31% Merlot with equal parts Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, aged 22 months in one-third new French oak. It comes from one of Napa's great modern vintages, and the estate held it in its own cellar until it was drinking right. Bordeaux bones, Napa flesh. A library release for a serious dinner, with a drinking window through 2028.

Leather, spice and blackberry on the nose. Cocoa and toasted oak frame ripe black cherry, plum, violets and dried herbs. Full and muscular, with graceful tannins and a polished finish of spice and earth.

Dry-aged ribeye, braised short ribs, or lamb shoulder with herbs. It wants char, salt and a little fat.

Marciano Estate held this 2013 at the winery since it was crafted, releasing it with a decade of age already done. Andy Erickson, one of Napa's most sought-after winemakers, built it from estate fruit in a landmark vintage.
