Terrazze dell'Enta Carusu Rosso Enta 2017 750ml

Terrazze dell'Etna is Palermo-born engineer Nino Bevilacqua's project, launched in 2008 on 36 hectares of dry-stone terraces carved into lava rock above Randazzo on Etna's northern slope, with Riccardo Cotarella consulting. Carusu is the estate's Etna Rosso: 80% Nerello Mascalese and 20% Nerello Cappuccio from vines between 600 and 950 meters, aged a brief six months in tonneaux. The 2017 is a warm-vintage Etna, dark cherry and wild plum over volcanic spice. Sicily's answer to red Burgundy.

Ripe red fruit and spice on an elegant, slightly ethereal nose. Dark cherry and wild plum on the palate, medium-rich weight, round soft tannins, bright ethereal finish.

Mushroom risotto, grilled swordfish, sausage with lentils.

The estate sits at Bocca d'Orzo above Randazzo, among the highest vineyards in Europe, farmed entirely by hand on terraces held up by dry-stone walls, planted to the native Nerellos plus Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Petit Verdot.
