Val do Galir comes from Bodegas Virgen del Galir, a small producer in the Galir River Valley of Valdeorras, Galicia, in which the Rioja house CVNE took a stake in 2017. It's 100% Mencía, grown on steep, high-altitude terraces of slate, clay and granite soil using cultivation methods inherited from the Romans. This is cool-climate Atlantic Spain: mineral, structured, built for the table rather than solo sipping. A solid pick for anyone chasing Spanish reds past the usual Rioja and Ribera del Duero names.
