Vina Jaraba - Selección Especial - 2019

Pago de la Jaraba is a family estate with 80 hectares of vines at 750 meters on the La Mancha plateau, a region that hides some of Spain's best value in plain sight. Selección Especial is the step-up red: Tempranillo out front, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot behind, about a year in French oak barrels. The 2019 is elegant and layered, with the leather and tobacco of a wine twice the price. Imported by Spanish specialist Grapes of Spain.

Ripe dark fruit with fine spice, tobacco and toasted wood on the nose. Black cherry and leather on the palate, minerally and balanced, oak and smoke framing a flavorful finish.

Braised short ribs, lamb meatballs, garlicky roasted mushrooms, and obviously aged Manchego.

The estate sits at an average 750 meters in the heart of La Mancha. Recent vintages of Selección Especial run roughly 70 percent Tempranillo, 20 percent Cabernet Sauvignon and 10 percent Merlot, with twelve months in French oak barrels.
