Wonderment - ‘Dutton-Campbell Vineyard' - Pinot Noir - 2017
$56.99
Stephanie Cook modeled in Milan, ran a Charleston catering company, then chased her late father's homemade-wine memory to California and founded Wonderment. Her Dutton-Campbell Pinot comes off a 14-acre vineyard in Graton, in the cool Green Valley corner of the Russian River Valley, planted in six blocks of Pommard, 777 and Clone 4. Production runs around 300 cases a vintage. The 2017 hands you several years of bottle age you didn't have to cellar yourself.
Black cherry, raspberry and darker berry fruit with baking spice, vanilla and a savory underbrush edge. Supple, silky tannins and a warm, lingering finish.
Roast duck, coq au vin, wild mushroom pasta.
Dutton-Campbell is a 14-plus-acre site at the northwest edge of Graton in the Green Valley of Russian River Valley, planted north-south in six blocks of Clone 4, Pommard and 777. Cook trained at Spottswoode, Anomaly, Staglin and Spy Valley before going out on her own.
