Wonderment Wines Bacigalupi Petit Sirah 2017

Petite Sirah from a famous address. The Bacigalupi family has farmed Westside Road in the Russian River Valley since the mid-1950s, the same family whose Chardonnay went into the Chateau Montelena that won the 1976 Judgment of Paris. Wonderment gets a half-acre, dry-farmed block of Foppiano-clone vines, hand-picked and handled with minimal intervention. The house style is dense black fruit with real acidity and chalky grip. A cellar candidate with nine years on it already.

Black fruits, cassis and flowers on the nose. Full-bodied and concentrated, with blackberry, graphite and pepper, bright acidity and a long finish framed by chalky tannins.

Braised short ribs, a blue cheese burger, black-pepper brisket.

The block is Frost 2D, a half acre of vertically trellised, dry-farmed Foppiano-clone Petite Sirah on the flat bench east of Westside Road, cut off from the rest of Frost Ranch by a dry creek bed and a stand of oaks.
