XXVI Palhete Do Tareco 2023 750ml
$30.00
Palhete is old-school Alentejo: red and white grapes fermented together, and XXVI Talhas does it the ancient way, in clay. The Vila Alva winery works only with old talha amphorae, and the Tareco line honors villagers who made wine at home in small clay pots called tarecos. Aragones, Trincadeira, and Tinta Grossa co-ferment with white grapes, spend about two and a half months on skins, and get bottled fresh after St. Martin's Day. Chill it. Nothing else on our shelves drinks like it.
Vivid deep pink, nearly pale ruby. Fresh red berries with an earthy, savory talha edge. Fuller than rose, drinks like a chillable light red. Dry, brisk finish.
Grilled sardines, pork skewers, garlicky roast chicken, salty sheep's cheese.
XXVI Talhas works in Vila Alva, an Alentejo village at the heart of Portugal's talha tradition, fermenting everything in old clay vessels. Following village custom, the Tareco wines are opened after St. Martin's Day, November 11, and bottled soon after.
