Barone Fini - Pinot Grigio - 2022

Barone Fini has been in the Bonmartini-Fini family's hands for more than 500 years in Italy's Trentino-Alto Adige, and this Pinot Grigio is their Alto Adige D.O.C. bottling, distinct from their more widely poured Valdadige version. Grapes are handpicked at the foot of the Alps and harvested late in the season for full maturity, which pushes the wine to a slightly higher alcohol level than the entry bottling. It's a step up in concentration for people who find standard Pinot Grigio thin.

Citrus notes open up into warm ripe apple and lychee, finishing with mountain herbs and flowers. Bright acidity balanced by minerality gives it a rich, clean finish.

The producer suggests crudité, cioppino and tiramisù; the bright acidity and stone-fruit character work well with seafood generally.

Handpicked grapes from vineyards at the foot of the Alps in Alto Adige, harvested at the end of the growing season for maximum ripeness. Owned today by Deutsch Family Wine & Spirits.
