Copain's Daybreak is an aromatic white blend from Sonoma County, and the 2023 is a wild mix: 37% Malvasia Bianca, 29% Riesling, 13% Gewurztraminer, 9% Chenin Blanc, 8% Viognier and 4% Chardonnay. Fermented and raised in stainless and neutral barrel, several lots co-fermented, so all that perfume stays fresh at 12.7% alcohol. Pour it for anyone bored of Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay. It smells like a flower shop and drinks like a citrus grove.
Tropical fruit and rose petal on the nose, green tea and honey underneath. Bright palate of pineapple, lychee, peach and honeysuckle, with pear and guava on a fresh, lively finish.
Thai takeout, spicy fried chicken, crab rolls, soft ripe cheeses.
Several components were co-fermented to knit the aromatics together, then the blend spent three months in neutral barrel and two months in stainless steel before bottling.
