Fratelli Berlucchi farms about 70 hectares around Borgonato di Corte Franca, in the heart of Franciacorta, Italy's answer to Champagne. Brut 25 is the house calling card: Chardonnay with Pinot Blanc, made the Champagne way with a second fermentation in bottle. The name means 25 months from grape to glass. Lighter and fresher than the French equivalent, with genuine yeasty depth. The aperitivo bottle we reach for when Prosecco won't cut it.

Bread crust and yeast over mandarin, lime and grapefruit; white peach, apple and pear with almond, hazelnut and dried fig underneath. Fresh, balanced acidity and a fine, dry finish.

Sushi and the raw bar, fritto misto, salty snacks at the start of a party.

The family estate covers roughly 70 hectares of DOCG and DOC vineyards at Borgonato di Corte Franca. The house has a string of Decanter World Wine Awards medals for this cuvée, including a 2015 Silver.
