Henri Champliau - Cremant De Bourgogne - Brut - NV

Alexandre Graffard started Henri Champliau in 2016 and named it for his grandfather, a Mercurey man with two passions: horse racing and wine. The family vineyards around Mercurey give grapes with acidity closer to Champagne than to still Burgundy, so Alexandre makes bubbles. The Brut Authentique is 85 percent Pinot Noir with Chardonnay, traditional method, 15 months aging sur latte. Decanter gave it 96 points, the highest-scoring Cremant in the competition's history. Champagne manners, cremant price.
Fine bubbles, creamy mousse. Red fruit, nectarine, and green pear on the nose with toasted brioche. Broad, vibrant palate, white strawberry and yellow plum, persistent and fresh through the finish.

A family-owned negociant house in Mercurey, in the Cote Chalonnaise. Graffard sources from 30 hectares farmed specifically for sparkling base wine, controls pressing and vinification himself, and vinifies small lots separately before blending.
