Jermann is the Friuli estate that proved Italian white wine could be world-class, starting with Vintage Tunina in 1975. The family has farmed at Villanova di Farra since 1881; Antinori took a majority stake in 2021 with Silvio Jermann still involved. This 2023 Pinot Grigio is the real Friuli article: dry, full, textured, nothing like the watery supermarket stuff. Falstaff gave it 90 points. If Pinot Grigio bores you, this is the bottle that argues back.

Peach, ripe pear, apple, elderflower, and chamomile. Fuller-bodied than expected, velvety yet driving, crisp acidity, a mineral streak, fresh mint on the finish.

Anton Jermann founded the estate in 1881 in Villanova di Farra; fifth-generation Silvio transformed it in the 1970s and the house now farms about 170 hectares across Friuli. Vintage Tunina, his pioneering white field blend, made the name famous worldwide.
