Jermann - Sauvignon Blanc - 2017

$10.99

Jermann has farmed in Friuli's Collio Goriziano since 1881, when Anton Jermann founded the estate; grandson Silvio took over in the 1970s and rebuilt Jermann's reputation as one of Italy's great white wine producers, sealing everything under Stelvin screwcap decades before it was fashionable. This Sauvignon Blanc splits the difference between racy New Zealand styles and the mineral cut of the Loire. Antinori bought a majority stake in 2021; Silvio still steers the wine.

Brilliant straw-yellow with green highlights. Elderflower, tropical fruit and citrus aromas lead to a full, dry palate of white grapefruit, pineapple and ripe apricot, with fresh-cut grass, white pepper and tangy, mineral acidity.

Built for shellfish, seafood risotto, or white fish in a light sauce; excellent with lobster.

The Jermann family has farmed in Friuli's Collio Goriziano since 1881. Silvio Jermann, an oenology graduate of Conegliano and San Michele, took the reins in the 1970s and became known for cool stainless-steel fermentation, extended lees aging, and Stelvin closures on every bottle. Antinori acquired a majority stake in 2021.
