Louis Roederer Blanc de blanc 2015 750ml

Louis Roederer is one of the last great family-owned Champagne houses, and this is its vintage Blanc de Blancs: 100% Chardonnay from La Cote in Avize, all grand cru fruit. Sixteen percent of the wine saw oak. Five years on the lees, another eight months of rest after disgorging, and a gentle 8 g/l dosage. The house even draws it off at low pressure for a softer, creamier bubble. Champagne for people who like their sparkle mineral and precise. Pour it tonight or hold until 2036.

Ripe citrus, white blossom, fresh wheat and almond, with sea-spray minerality warming into smoke, hot butter and toast. Creamy, soft and concentrated on the palate. Fine, delicate bubbles, long saline finish.

Oysters on the half shell, seared scallops with brown butter, or fried chicken if you want to live right.

Fruit comes entirely from La Cote in Avize, a grand cru village of the Cote des Blancs. 16% of the base wine is vinified in oak casks, and the cuvee is drawn off at low pressure for a rounder, smoother effervescence.
