Malandes - Chablis 1er Cru - 'Montmains' - 2022
$63.99
Domaine des Malandes has farmed Chablis since the Tremblay family began buying vineyard land in the 1940s, and Montmains is one of the Left Bank's benchmark Premier Cru sites. The 2022 comes from a vintage Burgundy critics are calling exceptional for Chablis: ripe but precise, with the site's clay-over-limestone soils doing the talking. This is Chablis for someone who wants texture and minerality both, not just a squeeze of lemon. A good bottle to bring to a dinner where someone claims to not like Chardonnay.
Pale gold in the glass, with lime flower, acacia and fresh hay on the nose. The palate is wide rather than linear, mineral-driven, with real finesse and a long finish.
Classic matches for Chardonnay: Roast chicken, lobster or crab with butter, corn dishes, soft creamy cheeses.
Domaine des Malandes was built up by the Tremblay family starting in the 1940s and expanded by Lyne Marchive to nearly 30 hectares across Chablis; her children, led by Richard Rottiers, run it today. Montmains is a Left Bank Premier Cru known for clay-over-limestone soils that give a rounder, more mineral style than the Right Bank crus.
