María Casanovas - Brut de Brut - Cava Reserva - NV
$29.00
Maria Casanovas is a family Cava house in Sant Sadurni d'Anoia, the heart of Penedes, run today by three of Maria's children on thirteen estate-owned hectares. Brut de Brut Reserva is their flagship, a traditional-method blend led by Parellada with Xarel-lo and Macabeo, made the old way with classic Champenoise circulation and a slow, cool fermentation. It drinks like it costs more: real complexity, real toast, none of the thin, candy-fruit character that gives bulk Cava a bad name.
Pale yellow with citrus, orchard fruit, honey and smoky lees on the nose. Concentrated orange, pear nectar and buttered toast on the palate, bright acidity, a long toasty finish with chamomile and orange pith.
Classic matches for a sparkling like this: Oysters, fried foods, salty snacks — bubbles cut through everything.
The Casanovas family has grown grapes in Penedes for generations and started bottling under their own name in 1984. They farm thirteen hectares of Xarel-lo, Parellada and Macabeo, plus some Pinot Noir and Chardonnay; Maria Casanovas was one of the first Penedes producers to plant Pinot Noir.
