Meurgey-Croses is the label of Pierre Meurgey, a fourth-generation Burgundy trader who spent 24 years running operations for Maison Champy before striking out on his own. He named the estate for his mother's maiden name, Croses, and works out of Château de Bligny in Bligny-lès-Beaune with a focus on Mâconnais whites. This is his Vieilles Vignes bottling from Viré-Clessé, made from old-vine Chardonnay in the appellation just north of Mâcon. Wine Spectator scored it 90 points on release.

Ripe and luscious, with a sleek, juicy feel. Floral, peach, lemon curd, and spice aromas and flavors mesh seamlessly, closing with fine length and a faint touch of warmth.

Classic matches for Chardonnay: Roast chicken, lobster or crab with butter, corn dishes, soft creamy cheeses.

Pierre Meurgey farms old Chardonnay vines in the Mâconnais with an emphasis on organic and biodynamic practices, staying hands-on in the vineyard from pruning through harvest. He sources this bottling from Viré-Clessé, one of the Mâconnais's richer, more structured appellations.
